'Death Stranding' Anime Series Officially Announced for Disney+

The anime will tell a new story with new characters in a hand-drawn 2D style and is part of expanding the Death Stranding franchise beyond video games, Kojima said.

  • At the Disney APAC originals content showcase in Hong Kong, Hideo Kojima unveiled Death Stranding Isolations, an all-new animated series streaming on Disney+.
  • Disney approached Hideo Kojima while collaborating on the 2023 documentary Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, and Kojima said he is a longtime Disney fan who wanted to reach audiences who do not play video games.
  • Using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, E&H Production leads the project with Takayuki Sano directing and Hideo Kojima executive producing, while Ilya Kuvshinov provided new concept art.
  • Disney+ outlined that the show will tell a new, separate story set in the Death Stranding world and introduce new characters, while Kojima said the series aims to reach non-gamers and expand the franchise with an A24 feature film also in the works.
  • The franchise is accelerating after a sequel released in June this year, with the anime following Sam Bridges trying to save America and the original Death Stranding game attracting more than 20 million players.
