US, Russia to hold talks on Ukraine in Miami: White House

U.S. and Russian delegations will discuss territorial concessions and security guarantees amid ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as Washington pushes for a negotiated settlement.

  • On Dec. 17, Politico reported U.S. and Russian officials will meet in Miami this weekend to discuss ending Russia's war in Ukraine, with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner leading the U.S. side and Kirill Dmitriev representing Russia.
  • Washington is pushing a negotiated settlement and pressing Kyiv as the Miami talks build on Berlin consultations earlier this week on security guarantees and reconstruction funding.
  • Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, urged partners to act on nearly $250 billion of frozen Russian sovereign assets, saying, `We need all our partners to have the courage to see the truth, acknowledge the truth and act accordingly`.
  • Deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov reiterated Moscow's position that it will not return land or accept NATO peacekeepers, and Russia intends to continue fighting next year.
  • With European stakes high, Zelensky said, "The outcome of these meetings, the outcome for Europe, must be such that Russia feels that its desire to continue fighting next year will be pointless, because Ukraine will have support".
