- On Nov. 2, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social urging Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster to end the shutdown, saying, 'Terminate the filibuster, not just for the shutdown, but for everything else.'
- Because Republicans control 53 seats in the Senate, the Senate filibuster requiring 60 votes blocks legislation without Democratic support, and since Oct. 1 Democrats have opposed funding bills, causing the shutdown.
- Repetitive posts on Tuesday marked at least the sixth plea in five days, with Trump writing, 'Well, now WE are in power, and if we what we should be doing, it would IMMEDIATELY end this ridiculous, Country destroying 'SHUT DOWN,' on Truth Social.
- Senate leaders pushed back, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune saying 'The votes aren't there' and House Speaker Mike Johnson warning it could empower Democrats; the Congressional Budget Office estimated costs between $7 billion and $14 billion and a 2% GDP drop.
- Trump argued that a future Democratic majority would act immediately if Republicans end the filibuster, warning, 'If the Democrats ever came back into power... it will be done in the first day they take office, whether or not we do it.
