‘High Court Judge Making Such Mistake’: Supreme Court on Bail to Actor Darshan in Renukaswamy Case
KARNATAKA, INDIA, JUL 24 – The Supreme Court expressed strong reservations about the High Court's bail order amid serious murder and kidnapping charges against actor Darshan, with verdict expected within ten days.
- In the Renukaswamy murder case, a bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan reserved judgment on Thursday after considering the Karnataka government’s petition to cancel Darshan Thoogudeepa’s bail.
- Following the High Court’s December 13 order, the Karnataka government challenged the bail in January.
- On July 17, the Supreme Court said it was `not convinced` by the High Court’s bail decision, and questioned the lack of arrest grounds and weight of forensic and eyewitness evidence.
- The bench asked Darshan Thoogudeepa’s lawyers to give `good reason` why it should not interfere with the bail order, and nine central jail officials were suspended for his widely shared prison photograph.
- Following the reserved hearing, the verdict should arrive within ten days, and Darshan Thoogudeepa is due to return to Bengaluru on Friday .
