A timeline of how the Tumbler Ridge shootings unfolded
Eight victims and the shooter died in one of Canada’s deadliest school shootings, with 25 others treated for non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.
- A mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on Tuesday killed eight residents and the shooter, RCMP said.
- At 1:20 p.m. mountain time, the RCMP sent an emergency alert, and officers arrived on scene around 1:22 p.m., prompting lockdowns, as confirmed by authorities.
- Officers found six victims dead inside the school, two airlifted with serious injuries, and two more deceased at a linked residence, according to the RCMP.
- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police cancelled the active alert at 6:45 p.m., ending lockdowns and deploying frontline officers, emergency response teams, the RCMP Major Crime unit, and Victim Services, the RCMP said.
- RCMP Supt. Ken Floyd said, `We are not in a place now to be able to understand why and what may have motivated this tragedy`, and identified Jesse Van Rootselaar as the shooter, who had prior Mental Health Act detentions.
