YouTube Takes on Spotify With Its New Recap Feature
YouTube's new Recap feature creates personalized year-in-review cards highlighting top channels, interests, and viewing trends, launching first in North America with global rollout planned.
- YouTube is launching YouTube Recap on Dec. 2, rolling out today in North America before expanding worldwide this week.
- Responding to creator and user feedback, Manthra Panchapakesan, product manager at the Google-owned video giant, said Recap was developed after nine rounds of feedback and over 50 concept tests.
- Recap analyzes your past-year watch history to generate up to 12 cards highlighting top channels, interests, and viewing trends; mobile apps need YouTube v18.43+ with Recap on Home or You tabs, desktop users access youtube.com/recap.
- Alongside Recap, YouTube released its five End of Year lists and trend charts, with MrBeast topping creators, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga leading songs, and The Joe Rogan Experience ranking top podcast.
- After YouTube Music's rollout last week, the video Recap follows Spotify Wrapped and joins year-end summaries like Apple Music Replay.
