ROME, ITALY, JUL 22 – Italy and Algeria signed 14 agreements to boost cooperation in energy, security, and trade, with bilateral exchanges reaching $14 billion in 2024, officials said.
- On July 23, Italy and Algeria held an intergovernmental summit at Rome’s Villa Doria Pamphilj, where leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation on terrorism and migration.
- The summit followed ongoing efforts including Meloni’s 2022 election on a migrant-curbing mandate and recent energy deals like Eni and Sonatrach’s $1.3 billion contract this month.
- During the summit, the two governments signed 13 agreements covering sectors such as energy and telecommunications, and planned coordinated migrant search and rescue operations.
- Foreign Minister Tajani emphasized at a business forum attended by over 400 companies that Algeria remains a key partner, and efforts continue to expand and strengthen their collaboration across various sectors.
- The agreements mark deeper Italy-Algeria ties with trade near €14 billion and Algeria as Italy’s top gas supplier since 2022, suggesting broader regional stability and economic growth.
