Naidu, Pawan, Chouhan Launch VB-G Ram G Scheme in Tirupati District

  • The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Act, 2025, came into effect today, replacing the two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and establishing a Rs 300 daily wage floor.
  • Unlike the previous model where the Centre paid 100% of wage costs, the new Act increases guaranteed workdays from 100 to 125 while requiring states to cover 40% of funding, except in northeastern and Himalayan regions.
  • Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the government's priority is to ensure "no eligible rural worker remains without work even for a single day," as the national average wage rose 9.5% to Rs 327.4 per day.
  • Five Opposition-ruled states—Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Telangana, and Jharkhand—passed resolutions opposing the Act, with critics arguing it consolidates decision-making in the Centre while increasing financial burden on states.
  • To facilitate the transition, the government released an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.3 crore to states and Union Territories, while existing e-KYC-verified job cards remain valid until new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued.
