172 people sent to prison in the past six days

A total of 1,418 people have been detained during protests that began with the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu and continued following his arrest. 1,400+ Arrested in Turkey as Erdoğan Jails Istanbul Mayor & Intensifies Authoritarian Crackdown

Mass demonstrations are continuing in Turkey, where Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested on corruption charges. Since protests broke out last week, Turkish authorities have detained more than 1,400 people, including students and journalists. İmamoğlu is the main rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the 2028 presidential election and was recently nominated for president by the Republican People’s Party. Erdoğan has led the country

Turkey has seen its seventh straight night of protests, in which more than 1,400 people have been detained so far. Among the detained protesters are students, journalists and lawyers. The arrests and crude use of force by police have been condemned by rights protection groups and the UN. Turkish television channels do not report on the situation in Istanbul.
