UNITED STATES AND MEXICO, JUL 29 – Mexican teams will host some matches in the 2025 Leagues Cup, featuring 36 teams with MLS limited to top 18, aiming to boost competition and fan engagement, organizers said.
- Starting July 29, 2025, the 2025 Leagues Cup runs through August 31, 2025, with the MLS season continuing simultaneously.
- Phase One divides teams into East and West groups, with each club playing three cross-league matches and the top four advancing to the quarterfinals.
- Hosting returns to Mexico as Tigres UANL, Chivas de Guadalajara, CF Monterrey and Club América can host knockout games if they qualify.
- Finishing among the top three secures berths in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, with the champion, runner-up, and third-place teams qualifying.
- Marking format changes, all Liga MX clubs will participate in the 2025 Leagues Cup as the competition returns with major modifications after Columbus Crew’s 2024 title.
