Taiwan’s former Prez Ma lands in China in landmark, controversial visit

Summary by Ground News
Former Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou landed in Shanghai on Monday afternoon, the first former leader of the self-ruled island to do so in nearly seven decades, in a visit that he said was an effort to “lower heightened political and military tension between the two sides.” The trip comes at a time of heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei. China keeps up military and political pressure to try and get democratic Taiwan to accept Chinese sovereignty.
