Infections caused by multi-drug-resistant bacteria, so-called 'superbacteria', pose a growing threat to global health. If their expansion is not slowed down, by 2050 they could cause more deaths than cancer. This is what laboratory medicine professionals warn of. They consider it to be one of the most serious health challenges of our time and that hinders treatment, increases mortality and raises hospital costs.
Infections caused by multi-resistant antibiotic bacteria, popularly known as superbacteria, pose a growing threat to global health. If their expansion is not slowed down, in 2050 they could cause more deaths than cancer, warn the professionals of Laboratory Medicine who meet from 12 to 14 November in Valencia at the XIX National Congress of Clinical Laboratory (LABCLIN 2025), organized by the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEMEDLAB).
