On June 1, the new abortion law came into effect. The new abortion law will, among other things, give women the right to self-determined abortion up to week 18, and also promises better follow-up.

While some countries, such as the US and Poland, are tightening their abortion laws, Norway is going the opposite way. As of June 1, it is now possible to have an abortion at the end of week 18, without having to go through an abortion board.

Norway's abortion law has not been changed since self-determined abortion was legalized in 1978. With the new law on Sunday, the right to self-determined abortion is extended from week 12 to week 18.
