Nigeria: NDLEA Declares Drug Kingpin, Three Associates Wanted Over Meth Lab, Freezes N9.8bn Accounts
NDLEA said forensic investigations linked the suspects to a meth lab and money laundering, and it froze N9.84 billion in related accounts.
- The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency declared suspected drug kingpin Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna, also known as Odogwu, and three associates wanted on Friday over alleged involvement in establishing a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory following a Federal High Court order.
- NDLEA operatives discovered the methamphetamine-producing facility at Isiozi, Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area on February 25, 2026, recovering 18.4 kilograms of the illicit substance; subsequent investigations linked the four suspects to the lab, prompting them to flee.
- Forensic investigation enabled the agency to freeze ₦9.84 billion in suspect-linked bank accounts while securing interim forfeiture orders for a filling station, multi-storey residential buildings, and four sport utility vehicles marked RLU 148 AJ, KJA 563 FZ, BWR 249 DY, and FST 208 HU.
- NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa assured Nigerians the agency would intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects while deploying "financial and forensic intelligence to trace, freeze and forfeit assets acquired through drug trafficking."
- The operation reflects NDLEA's broader strategy to dismantle drug trafficking networks by targeting both production facilities and the financial infrastructure sustaining them, with Marwa stating the seizure sends "an unambiguous message that the illegal drug business is no longer a safe haven for criminals seeking to launder their ill-gotten wealth.
