Montreal Canadiens sign GM Hughes, executive Gorton to multi-year extensions
- Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens announced five-year contract extensions for general manager Kent Hughes and president Jeff Gorton, The Canadian Press reported Oct. 14, 2025.
- Hughes and Gorton led the turnaround after returning Montreal Canadiens to the playoffs following a three-year absence, both extending contracts in their final year.
- Gorton, who joined the Canadiens in November 2021, hired Hughes in January 2022 and reshaped hockey operations by hiring head coach Martin St. Louis and adding Noah Dobson and Lane Hutson.
- Geoff Molson, owner and CEO of the Canadiens, said he is very pleased Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes committed for five more years as president of hockey operations and general manager.
- The club has a core signed through at least 2030, about $5.7 million in cap space and a 2-1-0 start to the 2025-26 season.
