India, UAE May Sign Pacts on Strategic Petroleum Reserves, LPG During PM Visit
The agreements would deepen energy security as the UAE supplies nearly 40% of India’s LPG and 11% of its crude, sources said.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United Arab Emirates to sign two key MoUs on LPG and Strategic Petroleum Reserves with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE supplies nearly 40 per cent of India's LPG needs and serves as a vital energy partner amid the energy crisis caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company stored over 5 million barrels of crude at Mangaluru to bolster India's "Strategic Petroleum Reserves."
The visit will address the welfare of nearly 4.5 million Indians in the UAE while officials state the trip aims at "Enhancing energy cooperation" within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Modi's five-nation tour includes visits to the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy, focusing on expanding cooperation in technology, trade, and renewable energy sectors.
