Iran and UAE clash at BRICS foreign ministers' meeting
Abbas Araghchi said the UAE helped carry out attacks on Iran and warned that its security policy should be reconsidered, deepening BRICS divisions.
On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United Arab Emirates of direct involvement in military operations against Iran during a BRICS meeting in New Delhi.
The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the UAE carried out strikes against Iran in early April, escalating tensions that began when US-Israeli attacks triggered Iranian retaliation on February 28.
Responding to the Emirati representative, Araghchi claimed, "The UAE is an active partner in this aggression," and alleged the nation failed to condemn initial attacks.
Diplomatic friction at the BRICS summit threatens a final communique, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi citing "problems and communications" due to the UAE's presence.
The UAE recently denied a statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming he visited the Gulf country, while Araghchi warned "those colluding with Israel to sow division will be held to account.
