'Jammu and Kashmir Matter Strictly Internal to India': P Harish Rebukes Pakistan at UNSC
India said Jammu and Kashmir remains an internal matter and urged a review of outdated UN mediation rules and Security Council mandates.
On Tuesday, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, rejected Pakistan's attempt to raise the Kashmir issue, asserting the Union Territory is "strictly internal" to India.
Pakistan's Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad introduced the territorial dispute during an Arria-formula meeting co-chaired by China and Pakistan, prompting Harish to accuse him of politicizing the forum.
Addressing the broader conflict resolution agenda, Harish argued that Chapter VI mediation frameworks lack perpetual validity, citing Palestine as an example where outdated mechanisms require review.
India called for a comprehensive review of Security Council mandates under the UN80 framework, arguing the 15-member body's current structure fails to reflect contemporary global realities.
New Delhi continues to press for permanent UNSC membership, supported by G4 nations including Brazil, Germany, and Japan, as diplomatic friction with Islamabad persists over third-party involvement.
