India downed five F-16, JF-17 Pakistani jets in May conflict, says Indian air force chief

Indian Air Force Chief Amar Preet Singh revealed Operation Sindoor downed 12 Pakistani military planes, including F-16s, with a record 300 km kill inside Pakistan, forcing a ceasefire.

  • On October 3, 2025, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Indian Air Force Chief, said the IAF achieved a longest-range kill of 300 km inside Pakistani territory during Operation Sindoor.
  • Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.
  • Singh said India downed four to five Pakistani F-16 and JF-17 fighters plus one C-130 class surveillance aircraft, damaging radars at four places, command-and-control centres at two, two runways and three hangars.
  • Singh said Pakistan requested a ceasefire on May 10, which India granted, framing the strikes as a strategic and psychological setback for Pakistan.
  • Information warfare and media roles were emphasised as Singh credited long-range SAMs, including the S-400 surface-to-air missile system, for showcasing Atmanirbharta and joint planning on Friday.
