Christa Pike released from hospital, back in prison following botched execution in Tennessee, lawyers say
Her lawyers said she remains under medical care after surviving two doses of pentobarbital in a failed lethal-injection attempt.
On Saturday, Christa Pike was discharged from the hospital and returned to prison following her botched lethal injection execution attempt last month in Tennessee, her attorneys confirmed.
Pike survived two doses of a lethal injection drug during the September 30 execution attempt, carried out for her 1995 conviction in the murder of classmate Colleen Slemmer.
Attorneys Stephen Ferrell, Luke Ihnen, Randy Spivey, and Kelly Gleason reported Thursday that Pike is walking "with some assistance" and her arms are "healing and regaining movement and strength."
A judge ordered the Tennessee Department of Corrections to preserve all evidence related to the failed procedure, which attorneys discussed at a Nashville news conference on Wednesday.
According to the Death Penalty Information Center, Pike remains the only person known to have survived an execution attempt in the United States after more than 30 years of incarceration.
Christa Pike, the convict who survived her execution last week in the United States, left the hospital and returned to prison, announced her lawyers on Saturday.
