Chinese export restrictions make bismuth metal much more expensive
The price of bismuth has soared due to China’s export restrictions. The reddish-white lustrous metal, widely used in the production of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, paints, fire alarms, defense equipment and other industrial applications, was added to China’s list of key metals subject to export restrictions in February. Beijing’s move came in response to a 10 percent tariff imposed on Chinese goods by U.S. President Donald Trump.
