- On Wednesday, Ahmedabad, India was confirmed as the venue for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories ratifying the bid.
- India sees the Games as a stepping stone toward the 2036 Olympics and aims to erase the tainted legacy of the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games.
- Ashwani Kumar told reporters: `We are very confident and we have done good homework as a team`, with new arenas by late 2028 or early 2029, and a new airport terminal next year, Kumar added.
- The organising committee will be established within a month, and organisers say they are confident yet aware of challenges, while Ahmedabad will host the World Police Games and use venues for the World Police and Fire Games in October 2029.
- With a population of more than seven million, Ahmedabad requires massive investment in roads, subway lines and sporting facilities, while India’s national auditor flagged at least $29 million in waste and revenue inflation in past Games.
