Virginia Tech Hires Florida Atlantic's Brian White as New AD
White brings conference realignment experience and major hire success as Virginia Tech expands athletics spending and support.
Virginia Tech University announced on Monday, June 22, the hiring of Florida Atlantic University Athletic Director Brian White as its new athletic director, replacing Whit Babcock after his 12-year tenure.
Bolstered by a $229.2 million board infusion and an anonymous $75 million donation announced June 4, the athletic department offers significant financial resources to support the 'Invest to Win' campaign.
Partnering with head football coach James Franklin, hired last November, White will focus on building a championship-caliber program; Franklin emphasized the need for a leader with "impeccable character."
An introductory press conference scheduled for Wednesday morning at Lane Stadium will formally introduce White as the 12th athletic director in Virginia Tech's history, marking his official start date.
With experience overseeing Florida Atlantic's move to the American Athletic Conference, White joins a family of sports administrators including his father, Kevin White, and brother, Danny White.
