In Belgium, they commemorated the fallen Czechoslovak soldiers. Members of the separate armored brigade helped liberate the first city in the country – the seaside resort of De Panne. They also participated in the siege of the nearby French port of Dunkirk. There, they held back a strong German garrison. As a result, they could not join the fighting against the Allies advancing east after the Normandy landings.
