The balloon flying over the 1991 Corn Palace was created in 1983 by Bill Soukup and Tracy Barnes. It is designed to resemble the likeness of Carmen Miranda, a singer, actress and dancer popular in the 1940’s and 50’s with the nickname “Chica Boom.” This balloon was considered the flagship of the collection.
