The concerns come as the Trump Administration threatened to impose 200% tariffs on all alcoholic beverages from the European Union, last month. The year 2024 was one of the weakest for the world's wine production. A situation that now adds 10% to American taxes, and perhaps even 20% in three months, if negotiations with Washington fail. World trade is likely to suffer, according to the International Vine and Wine Organization.

Many German wineries also export their wines to the USA. The initially suspended tariffs of 20 percent would hit them hard. Our wine critic has listened to them.
