Coloradans Have Spoken and Chosen the Name of the Front Range Passenger Rail
The name won 37% of more than 25,000 votes and could help build support for a possible ballot measure to fund the rail line.
On Monday, Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Front Range Passenger Rail District officials announced "CoCo" as the winning name for the state's future passenger train, selected from more than 25,000 votes cast in a public contest.
Designed to reduce traffic along the Interstate 25 corridor, the proposed rail project aims to link communities from Fort Collins to Trinidad using existing freight lines, with service potentially launching as early as 2029.
The name "Colorado Connector," or "CoCo," secured 37% of the votes, beating finalists like "FRED." Local residents Cora Zaletel and Tyler Shown proposed the moniker; their family dog shared the name for 18 years.
To fund the multi-billion-dollar project, state officials are weighing a ballot measure for November that would implement a sales tax of about a quarter to a third of a penny per dollar.
District leaders are hosting town hall meetings across the region to gather public input, with sessions scheduled this week in Longmont and next week in Boulder to discuss the project's development.
