William Shatner, 95, to Debut Heavy Metal Performance

The 95-year-old actor will debut with The *uckers and preview songs from a forthcoming heavy metal album, Riot Fest said.

  • On Sept. 20, 95-year-old actor William Shatner will debut his new heavy metal band, Uckers, at Riot Fest in Chicago's Douglass Park. The performance marks the Star Trek icon's first live appearance with the group.
  • Backed by guitarists Marcus Nand and Britt Lightning, bassist Phil Soussan, and drummer Fred Aching, the performance will "reimagine songs from across Shatner's musical catalog," according to an announcement. The band will preview material from his forthcoming heavy metal album.
  • Riot Fest disclosed that Shatner's contract demands include a dressing room themed "Shag Shack," 4 feet of Polish sausage, and an assortment of playful puppies. The festival also requested a boat renamed in the actor's honor.
  • News of Shatner's debut comes "after years of writing letters" to him, Riot Fest said. Similar persistence brought Full House alum John Stamos onto the stage last year after years of online harassment.
  • Entering its 21st year, Riot Fest returns Sept. 18-20 with more than 100 artists across various stages. Shatner, who reached an altitude of about 66 miles in 2021, will be the most senior act on the bill.
