Pressure on PM Modi Harms Global Ties, Says Putin; Sees India-Russia Trade Touching $100 Bn
Putin said India will keep pursuing its own interests as cooperation with Russia expands across energy, nuclear power, pharmaceuticals and investment.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that United States attempts to pressure India over cooperation with Russia would fail, asserting it is "useless to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi" to change course.
Putin characterized the Russia-India bond as a "special privileged strategic partnership" developed over decades, noting this relationship did not emerge "yesterday or one or five years ago" but spans back to the Soviet Union era.
Cooperation between the two nations is expanding across sectors including energy, nuclear energy, pharmaceuticals, and investment, with Putin calling India "one of the leading economies of the world" showing the highest growth rate.
According to Putin, Russia sees no negative consequences from India's relations with other countries, as India, the "largest democracy," would naturally pursue ties that suit its own national interests.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin emphasized that Moscow and New Delhi are not only planning energy cooperation, as "new platforms will emerge" to strengthen bilateral ties in the coming years.
