The U.S. government's tightened scrutiny of ethane exports to China has caused more than six ethane tankers originally bound for China to be stranded off the coast of the U.S. Gulf (formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico), unable to set sail. According to ship tracking data and sources, Washington requires exporters to apply for shipping permits to China, resulting in the disruption of the itineraries of several cargo ships.
