Canadians divided on whether U.S. is an ‘ally’ or ‘enemy’ country: Poll

A Leger online poll conducted May 30 to June 1, 2025, found Canadians divided on whether the U.S. Is an ally, enemy, or neutral country.
This division reflects tensions from the recent U.S. Tariff increase, including a Trump executive order doubling steel and aluminum levies to 50 percent.
The poll surveyed over 1,500 Canadians and showed 27 percent view the U.S. As an ally, 26 percent as an enemy, and nearly 30 percent as neutral.
Andrew Enns of Leger noted older Canadians and political party supporters differ sharply in views, with 44 percent of Conservatives seeing the U.S. As an ally versus 12 to 17 percent among Liberals and NDP.
The findings suggest that despite a trade conflict, Canadians perceive the U.S. Moderately, maintaining its role as an important trading partner amid hopes for resolution.
