Tragic LPG Cylinder Blasts Rock Delhi: Multiple Injuries and Buildings Collapsed
On Monday, Delhi Police arrested 71-year-old owner Karambir Sejwal after tracing him to his farmhouse in Vasant Kunj, two days following the Saket building collapse on Saturday that killed six people.
Violating local regulations that limit height to ground-plus-three storeys, Sejwal had added two unauthorized floors to the Saidulajab building near Saket Metro over the past three months despite structural restrictions.
Five medical and engineering students and a canteen owner died in the tragedy, prompting the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to suspend Assistant Engineer Sudesh Singh Chauhan and Junior Engineer Amar Jain for alleged supervision lapses.
Separately, a suspected illegal LPG cylinder refilling operation caused a house collapse in North Delhi's Mukundpur area on Tuesday, injuring 10 people when the Delhi Fire Services received the emergency call at 9.37 am.
The MCD is initiating a citywide crackdown on unauthorized structures, issuing notices to buildings in Saket, Mehrauli and adjoining areas that exceed ground-plus-three floor limits, with show-cause notices beginning on Tuesday.
