The Italian town of Varenna, on the shores of Lake Como, will fine up to 200 euros for those who walk in a swimsuit or naked torso outside the bathing areas
"The quality of life of our residents cannot be sacrificed for the sake of mass tourism," said Mauro Manzoni, mayor of Varenna, one hour north of Milan.
With fines of up to 400 euros, Varenna takes action on Lake Como against the effects of mass tourism – and thus follows a trend throughout Italy.
