Ticketmaster to Ban Multiple Accounts, Shut Down TradeDesk After FTC Lawsuit

Ticketmaster will ban multiple accounts and require unique tax and Social Security IDs for brokers, deploying AI to fight fraud after the FTC lawsuit alleging anti-competitive behavior.

  • On Oct. 17, Live Nation executive vice president Daniel M. Wall sent a 10-page letter to Senators Marsha Blackburn and Ben Ray Luján, pledging to bar multiple accounts and remove TradeDesk.
  • After the FTC complaint and a related congressional inquiry, the Federal Trade Commission filed a suit last month alleging Ticketmaster coordinated with brokers and allowed them to skirt ticket limits.
  • Ticketmaster will require every entity to have a single verified account, unique taxpayer IDs, Social Security numbers for brokers, and will deploy AI and expand anti-bot systems blocking 200 million bots daily.
  • Live Nation says the reputational harm from defending TradeDesk exceeds its value and will remove that functionality, while independent venue groups called the letter insufficient as fans still pay above face value.
  • Last year, the Department of Justice filed a major antitrust suit that suggested breaking up Live Nation and Ticketmaster, while the dispute centers on interpreting the Better Online Ticket Sales Act with Live Nation backing the bipartisan MAIN Event Ticketing Act.
