The majority of residents of Budapest's first district, known as the Castle District, who took part in a local vote voted in favor of a complete ban on short-term apartment rentals, such as those offered through the Airbnb platform, announced district mayor Laszlo Borocz on Thursday.
Another Budapest district has won a victory for the complete ban on short-term rental: after the pioneering example of Terézváros, the Castle District has now also voted for livability. In the online vote held in District I, 58.6 percent of participants voted to eliminate Airbnb-type accommodations. The timeliness of the move is no coincidence, as the moratorium on registering new accommodations expires at the end of the year.
