Texas is set to execute a second man convicted in 2005 triple killing
The state says the execution would be Texas’ sixth this year and comes after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a final appeal.
- On Wednesday evening, Ker'Sean Olajuwa Ramey, 41, is scheduled for execution by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. He was convicted of capital murder for the 2005 shooting deaths of Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38.
- Ramey and co-defendant LeJames Norman went to an Edna home on August 24, 2005, seeking drugs to steal. Finding none, they fatally shot Roberts, Peacock, and Lopez with a.22-caliber handgun.
- Despite arguments from Ramey's attorneys that no physical evidence connected him to the crime scene, a jury convicted him in January 2007. Appeals courts subsequently rejected claims regarding jury discrimination and ineffective counsel.
- The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied Ramey's clemency petition on Monday, according to attorney Ronald McIntire. His execution follows the lethal injection of co-defendant Norman last week.
- If carried out, Ramey's death would mark the sixth execution in Texas this year. With three additional executions scheduled before year-end, the state could reach nine total, the highest since 2019.
