Teesside Stepdad Smirks as Jury Finds Him Guilty of Murdering Student
Jurors also found Owens guilty of grievous bodily harm after a three-hour deliberation, and he is due to be sentenced tomorrow.
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, a jury at Preston Crown Court found Nathan Owens guilty of murdering 19-year-old student Carla Georgescu and causing grievous bodily harm after deliberating for three hours.
Prosecutor Nicholas Lumley told the court Owens drove 100 miles to Preston on February 4, 2026, to 'satisfy his sexual needs, come what may,' deceiving Carla with a false story about retrieving a missing purse.
Digital forensic evidence revealed Owens harbored a 'despicable' sexual obsession with Carla, including secret photographs and explicit videos of himself with a life-sized effigy clothed in her nightwear, before staging the scene to look like suicide.
Sentencing for the convicted killer is scheduled for today, Friday, October 23, 2026. Detective Inspector Pete Macdonald said, "No verdict brings Carla back, but I hope that her mum and the rest of her loved ones can feel some sense of justice."
Justice Jacobs will hand down a life sentence to Owens today, determining the minimum period before he becomes eligible to seek parole, concluding a case decided by unanimous jury verdict in three hours.
