GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE, JUL 24 – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation accuses Israel of war crimes amid ongoing conflict, citing over 61,200 Palestinian deaths and more than 2 million displaced, urging UN action.
- On Wednesday at the UN Security Council in New York, the OIC urged intervention to halt what it called `systematic genocide`, citing the 57-member bloc chaired by Turkey.
- He characterized the accusations as Israel’s deliberate policy of demographic change, calling it genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, according to Ahmet Yildiz.
- Addressing the Council, Dorothy Shea reiterated support for Israel’s self-defense, called on Hamas to accept the ceasefire deal and free 50 hostages to enable its permanent departure from Gaza.
- In response, France, the UK, Algeria and Russia issued sharp rebukes, and on July 21 Israel dismissed the statement as `disconnected from reality`, blaming Hamas for impeding a ceasefire and hostage release.
- Aid agencies warned the humanitarian situation is nearing total collapse, and the OIC demanded a full arms embargo, protection forces, and ICC prosecutions.
