SpaceX’s 13th Starship Launch Will Test New Modifications
The test will deploy 20 Starlink satellites and assess new propulsion and heat shield changes after issues on the previous flight.
On Thursday, SpaceX will launch its next-generation Starship and Super Heavy rocket from Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas, with a 90-minute window opening at 6:45 p.m. ET for the uncrewed 407-foot vehicle.
SpaceX modified the Super Heavy booster's re-light system to address engine failures from the previous mission, while engineers added load-sensing heat shield tiles to gather durability data during high-pressure ascent.
The flight's objectives include deploying 20 Starlink V3 satellites and executing a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean, while SpaceX stated the Super Heavy booster will land in the Gulf instead of being caught by the launch tower's 'chopsticks'.
Evercore ISI analyst Kutgun Maral maintains an outperform rating despite shares falling more than 38% from their peak, stating "this is an extraordinary company on a real path to reshaping the future of humanity."
The Starship is presumed to be part of NASA's Artemis III mission next year, as SpaceX aims to scale Starlink broadband and advance Grok this year while iterating toward rapid reusability.
