A year ago I wrote on these pages about the loss of sovereignty in health. I did it as the one who throws a bottle into the sea: in the hope that someone would read it, but also with the urgent need to say it. Now that the public conversation has put this issue back in the center, I return to that reflection from another place: with more data, more certainty and a firmer conviction.
Iceland is now facing a decision that may seem technical and remote, but which touches on one of the most sacred values of the Icelandic constitution: national sovereignty. This refers to the proposed changes to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and a new pandemic protocol being developed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
