Shubhanshu Shukla Awarded Ashok Chakra; Gallantry Honours for 70 Armed Forces Personnel Announced - Full List
- On the eve of the 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved gallantry awards for 70 personnel, including one Ashok Chakra for Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Indian Air Force.
- In June last year, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla became the second Indian to travel to space and the first to reach the International Space Station during the Axiom-4 mission, spending 18 days in space.
- Alongside the Ashok Chakra, the list includes 3 Kirti Chakras, 13 Shaurya Chakras , and 44 Sena Medals .
- The honours formally recognise exemplary courage during India’s ISS mission, and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s studies on human health in space supported the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, scheduled for 2027.
- Shukla’s service record lists flights in the Su-30 MKI, MiG-21, MiG-29, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier and An-32, with over 2,000 hours of flying experience in the Indian Air Force.
