Sharon Stone On ‘Basic Instinct’ Reboot: “Good F***ing Luck”
Sharon Stone rejected the offer to reprise her role in the reboot despite Amazon MGM's $2 million script deal with original writer Joe Eszterhas.
- Last month, when news broke that Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber secured Basic Instinct rights, Eszterhas was attached to write the reboot, leaving Stone’s return undecided.
- Original Basic Instinct, a 1992 erotic thriller directed by Paul Verhoeven, grossed $117M domestically, roughly $265M today, and remains a major box office success.
- The studio has backed the Basic Instinct reboot with a deal paying Joe Eszterhas $2 million upfront, with a potential $4 million if produced, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
- Stone took a mocking tone on Today, saying, `If it goes the way the one that I was in went, I would just say, I don't know why you'd do it`, and, `I mean, go ahead, but good f---ing luck`.
- At present, no timeline or plot details are set, but Eszterhas revealed Catherine Tramell will appear and hopes Stone reprises her role.
