Pitavas Panda, BJP Leader, Shot Dead in Odisha's Berhampur; Probe On

On Monday around 10 pm, Pitabas Panda, senior lawyer and BJP leader, was shot near his Berhampur residence in Brahmanagar under Baidyanathpur police limits.
Panda had joined the BJP before the 2024 general elections after earlier ties with the Congress and raised allegations of irregularities in welfare schemes in Berhampur city and Ganjam district.
Two bike-borne assailants opened fire at close range, police said, firing two rounds that struck Panda in the chest, causing grievous bullet wounds.
Following the shooting, senior police officers, including South Range IG Niti Shekhar, examined CCTV footage as lawyers and ministers gathered at MKCG hospital, with the motive remaining unclear.
The motive remains unclear and authorities describe the reason as shrouded in mystery, while the local community in Berhampur was shocked and some senior police officers were reportedly on leave during the firing.
