‘Unreal smoke’: Sask. woman recalls fleeing wildfire

Shelly Lawrence wouldn’t have known there was a wildfire burning just minutes away from her home if it hadn’t been for the smoke. She never saw any flames when she made the decision to flee with her granddaughter.

Wildfires spreading in near-north

As of May 12, the number of active wildfires in Saskatchewan was 16, all in a band across the near-north. There is a total fire ban throughout the entire region and stretching down into southern parts of the province. Condition remain hot, dry and windy.
