Sarfaraz Ahmed announces retirement from international cricket

  • Sarfaraz Ahmed said in a PCB statement Sunday that he is retiring from international cricket, drawing curtains on a career spanning nearly two decades.
  • Having played first-class cricket as recently as last October, Sarfaraz, recently named to the national selection committee, said he wants to focus on his other roles.
  • His playing record lists 54 Tests, 117 ODIs and 61 T20Is, and he amassed 6,164 runs with six centuries, 35 half-centuries, 315 catches and 56 stumpings.
  • A source said the PCB can now appoint him as the head coach of the national Test team, since the post has been vacant since Azhar Mahmood's interim spell last year.
  • He is best known for captaining Pakistan to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy win, remaining the only captain to win ICC titles at junior and senior levels and receiving Pride of Performance in 2018.
