Russia is ready for new ideas on Ukraine peace, but with conditions, senior diplomat says

- The Kremlin stated on Thursday there are no "preconditions for a peaceful settlement" in Ukraine, with Putin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying there are "no grounds for optimism" given the Kyiv regime's position.
- Following the August 20 attack on Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones, Moscow maintains it remains open to talks if proposals recognize the "new realities on the ground" established by military developments.
- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Friday the U.S. showed readiness for "constructive dialogue," emphasizing that Washington's influence over Kyiv and European sponsors is critical for any diplomatic progress.
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last month Washington remains committed to ending the war, though he cautioned there is no quick deal ahead and the U.S. is trying to "find a middle ground."
- The Kremlin confirmed on Thursday it has no information on a potential next visit to Moscow by presidential envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who previously led Russia negotiations.
