USWNT Midfielder Rose Lavelle Voted U.S. Soccer Player of the Year

U.S. Soccer announced Friday that Rose Lavelle, midfielder for NJ/NY Gotham FC and the United States women's national team, was voted the 2025 Female Player of the Year for the first time.
After ankle surgery, Lavelle returned on June 26, scoring and assisting in a 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland and led Gotham FC to the NWSL Championship with 16 games played.
Lavelle carried 29.2% of the weighted vote, finishing ahead of Sam Coffey as votes came from U.S. national team coaches, players who earned a cap in 2025, U.S. Soccer Board of Directors, Athletes' Council, NWSL head coaches, and select media.
The U.S. women will play Paraguay Jan. 24 in Carson, Calif., meet Chile Jan. 27 in Santa Barbara, Calif., and open SheBelieves Cup play March 1 against Argentina.
The award, given since 1985, is part of a long U.S. Soccer honors tradition; Abby Wambach holds the record with six wins, while Lavelle uniquely scored in a FIFA Women's World Cup final and two NWSL Championship games.
