Amnesty International on Wednesday denounced France’s short-term residency system as a systemic violation of human rights as it traps migrant workers in a cycle of discrimination, leaving them particularly vulnerable to labour exploitation, homelessness, and poverty. A report published by the human rights organisation Amnesty International in November 2025 describes structural dysfunctions affecting racialized migrant workers employed in low-valued sectors. According to this organisation, procedures related to residence permits and work permits create situations of administrative instability that may expose these workers to loss of income and degraded working conditions.
