UN experts spoke of a persistent model of forced labour imposed by the Chinese state to the detriment of Uyghurs, Tibetans, Kazakhs and Kyrgyzstanis in Xinjiang and other provinces. Under the cover of poverty relief programmes, millions of people would be involved in coercive transfers, with serious consequences on fundamental rights, cultural identity and religious freedoms. Beijing rejected the accusations as unfounded.
