Nigel Farage defends himself over foreign donation claims
The Liberal Democrats say two aides arranged US-funded polls worth £32,500, while Farage faces a separate investigation over a reported £5 million gift.
On Friday, the Liberal Democrats reported Reform leader Nigel Farage to the parliamentary standards commissioner following a Channel 4 undercover investigation alleging aides arranged for a US company to fund three polls at £32,500.
The broadcaster's report alleged aides facilitated an 'impermissible donation' to conceal funding sources; both men stepped down while Reform denies wrongdoing, insisting 'donations from the names that were mentioned had not occurred.'
Labour Party chair Bridget Phillipson claimed Farage is 'up to his neck in sleaze and scandal,' arguing he cannot be trusted to address issues the country faces after failing to take personal responsibility.
The Liberal Democrats posed three formal questions to the commissioner, including whether Farage's conduct caused 'significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole.'
Addressing his party's conference, Farage pledged 'fundamental changes' within his first hundred days in government while predicting an early general election next spring and dismissing the scandal as a 'highly coordinated campaign of attacks.
